Washing clothes, releases 500,000 tons of microfibers into the ocean each year — the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles.
What does the From Denim To Green aim to achieve?
Green with style. That’s how we’d like the world to be
The From Denim To Green project has been initiated as a response to the impact the textile industry today has on the environment and how it will affect the life of the entire planet in the future. We want to wake up all the consumers, increase cooperation with business and brands, boost education and build new solutions so people can stay stylish without harming the environment and the economy.
Many of those fibers are polyester, a plastic found in an estimated 60% of garments. Producing polyester releases two to three times more carbon emissions than cotton, and polyester does not break down in the ocean.
We will create a European network of eco-activists who seek to make society aware of the impact the textile industry and our consumption methods have on the environment by linking businesses, schools and research into a holistic environmental protection network.
Unlike the petroleum industry and all its derivatives that environmental impact is generally known, few are aware of how polluting the fashion industry is and how many natural resources are consumed in its production.
